After that finale, I’m expecting a flood of shipfics based on our ponies finding a new appreciation and understanding for one another after having to spend a day in one anothers’ hooves and being completely helpless.
I fully intend to contribute to it.

This post probably isn’t necessary. But I’ve thought a lot about exactly what shipping is and why I do it, and I felt like writing down my thoughts on it. Writing down my unnecessary thoughts is a thing that I do, as you all know.
I first started thinking about how I would define “shipping” when confronted with someone saying they ship a canon pairing. It wasn’t something I’d never heard before, of course, but I remember being struck at the time by how strange that seemed to me. My experience with shipping had always been with characters who were not canonically in a relationship, but whom I would like to be in a relationship. So I wasn’t quite sure what it meant to ship a canon pairing, as it seemed like your work was sort of already done for you. And it occurred to me that, say, “I ship Princess Cadance/Shining Armor” doesn’t mean quite the same thing as “I ship Appledash.”
So I started thinking about what it means to ship a pairing, and I think it can mean a lot of different things depending on the person saying it and the pairing in question. And here’s what I came up with for all the different things it can mean to say “I ship these characters,” keeping in mind that these are not mutually exclusive:

Well, you can’t say something like that and then not provide links.
Oh, certainly!
I’m mainly talking here about Sweetie Pie. That is to say, shipping a grown-up Sweetie Belle with Pinkie Pie. I’ve written four stories about it for Thirty Minute Ponies. The first three, Duet, The Dream of a Ridiculous Mare, and Our Song are sort of a series. The fourth, Mature Mistakes, is separate due to a few details being different.
A few of my friends have written it since, and then today icemoonbankai wrote this, and that’s what brought on the post above.
(I actually have no idea if I inspired them, but I’d never seen Sweetie Pie before I wrote it, and their story makes me happy regardless)

So as you may or may not know, I’ve been writing lots and lots of pony fanfiction for the past several months. Almost every day. I often listen to music while thinking on the day’s prompt to get myself in the mood to write a particular character or ship, or to help myself come up with ideas. And on a whim I felt like sharing some of the music I use most often and what I use it for.
It’s all instrumental, mostly from video games, just because that’s what I know and because I can’t focus as well listening to music with lyrics.
